Emu Bottom Biscuits our Story and Brand PDF Print E-mail

Emu Bottom the brand and well renowned Homestead in Sunbury, Victoria, originates as far back to the early settlement days of Melbourne in 1836. During this time George Evans, one of the founders of Melbourne, first settled and built his homestead and sheep run called Emu Bottom Homestead. From the early colonial days to the era of Australia’s first real involvement in war during WW1 and WW2, cooking and passing on of recipes by the women of the household were always part of it. Our recipes used today are a true testament to this Australian style of country cooking.

Emu Bottom the “brand” dates back to the original name George Evans gave the property in 1836. It was named 'Emu Bottom' because he had settled in the low-lying ground of the valley well frequented by large flocks of emus native to the area. The property itself is still visited by thousands of people each year for various private functions and is still today considered one of our most beautiful heritage listed properties in Victoria.

Emu Bottom Biscuits the company itself started up officially in 1991 and was inspired out of a passion for producing Anzac Biscuits for visitors to the Homestead. An inspirational and accidental discussion with an executive chef from a major Australian Airline was what got the wheels in motion as they were trying to source and capture a product and brand for their passengers that was quintessentially Australian. This is how Emu Bottom Biscuits was born.
